Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on Cabinet secretaries who are pushing for a salary increment to step down from their positions. Gachagua stated that the government is prepared to advertise the vacancies and find individuals who are willing to accept the current salary.
The call comes after President William Ruto rejected a proposal to increase salaries for government officials, emphasizing the need for the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) to establish international best practices to bridge the gap between high earners and low earners.
The SRC defended the proposal, stating that comprehensive salary reviews have not been conducted for a decade. The proposal is currently at the public participation stage to gather input from all stakeholders.
