-Andrew Musangi, son-in-law of billionaire Chris Kirubi, has been shortlisted for the position of Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) chairperson.
- Musangi currently serves as the chairman of the Public Procurement Oversight Authority board, a position appointed to him by former President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2021.
- Other candidates shortlisted for the CBK chairperson position include former MPs Abdikadir Omar and Thomas Mwadeghu, who were members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party and allies of Raila Odinga in Garissa and Taita Taveta counties, respectively.
- The remaining candidates are former Principal Secretary for East African Affairs John Konchellah, former Water Principal Secretary James Lopoyetum, and James Gituro Wahome.
- The interview panel for the shortlisted candidates will take place on Wednesday, July 12, between 9 am to 3 pm.
- The Public Service Commission has invited the public to submit any credible information or reservations about the candidates by July 10, 2023.
- The CBK chairperson position became vacant following the departure of Mohammed Nyaoga, alongside former governor Patrick Njoroge and deputy Sheila M'Mbijjewe.
- Kamau Thugge and Susan Koech were appointed as replacements for Njoroge and M'Mbijjewe, respectively, with their nominations made by President William Ruto and approved by Parliament.
- The CBK chairperson is responsible for leading a team of 11 in overseeing monetary policy formulation.
