In a surprising turn of events, Member of Parliament (MP) Fred Kapondi claims to have narrowly escaped a shooting incident in Bungoma town. Kapondi, who represents Mt Elgon constituency, addressed the press to condemn the attack and express his concerns about the intentions of the assailants.

The incident occurred when Kapondi had just finished conducting his banking transactions and parked his car near Khetias supermarket to pick up some items. As he recounts, it seems that the attackers had been following him from the bank. Kapondi states that the shots were fired at the seat where he was sitting, suggesting that he was the intended target.
During the attack, the thieves managed to steal approximately Sh200,000 that was in the car. Kapondi's wife was with him during the incident, further highlighting the severity of the situation. The MP has called on the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to initiate a thorough investigation to apprehend the suspects and bring them to justice.
Bungoma County police confirmed the incident but stated that there was no evidence of actual shooting. Instead, it appears that a gang had been trailing Kapondi and broke into his car to steal an unknown amount of money.
