In a candid and heartfelt interview with his wife Diana Marua on her YouTube channel, Kenyan singer Bahati recently revealed the reasons behind his decision to step away from gospel music. One of the main factors he cited was the presence of self-righteousness in the industry, which made him feel judged and belittled.

Bahati also shared a personal story that profoundly impacted his perspective. During a challenging period, his late brother battled alcoholism alongside diabetes, and Bahati realized that his previous attitude of considering himself perfect because of his devotion to Christianity was flawed.

"I thought because I was a Christian who fasted and sang in church, I was perfect," he admitted. However, he acknowledged that he made the mistake of distancing himself from his brother instead of offering support. It was a hard lesson for him to learn, realizing that judging others and considering oneself superior can have dire consequences.

The loss of their mother at a young age added to the difficulties faced by Bahati and his brother. It led to their early exposure to the harsh realities of life, with Bahati's brother seeking solace in alcohol due to the pressures of hustling to survive. Tragically, Bahati's brother passed away at the age of 22, battling both diabetes and alcohol addiction.

Reflecting on his own shortcomings as a Christian, Bahati admitted to failing his brother by judging him. He now realizes the importance of love and understanding in helping others overcome their struggles. By the time he tried to reconcile, it was too late, and his brother's health had deteriorated beyond recovery.

The singer expressed his dislike for excessive alcohol consumption, as it had taken a toll on his brother's life. Recently, Bahati and his wife Diana made headlines when they were captured on film appearing to be drunk while clubbing. However, Bahati clarified that even though he has chosen to step away from gospel music, his relationship with God remains intact.

In sharing his personal journey and struggles, Bahati's story serves as a reminder that it is crucial to treat others with empathy, compassion, and love. Self-righteousness and judgment can have far-reaching consequences, causing unnecessary pain and driving people further apart. By understanding the power of acceptance and support, we can create a more inclusive and understanding society.
